Meeting the Need With Holistic Solutions
There is a national crisis in health and wellness services for the aging. Yet private philanthropy remains nearly absent – only 6% of nonprofits focus on aging and the caregiving.
Every day in the United States 10,000 people turn 65. The “baby boomer” generation is retiring, many with limited means. Today between 20-29% of American adults are providing unpaid care for a loved one with a chronic illness or a disability at home. And caregiving can lead to physical, emotional, and financial strain. According to AARP, nearly 1 in 5 caregivers reports fair or poor health and suffers from at least one chronic condition.
Each year Transforming Age’s affiliates serve more than 125,000 older adults and their unpaid caregivers each year. We’ve saved taxpayers $50 million with community-based care and provided $10 million in unreimbursed charity support as elders remain in their homes.
